Luxury yacht marina Porto Montenegro is partnering with the Seabin Project to help educate the next generation about ocean pollution, prevent it and clean it up.

Devised by Australian professional big-boat sailor Andy Turton and boat-builder Peter Ceglinski, The Seabin collects all floating rubbish, oils, fuel and detergents, and helps create a cleaner sea with a healthier marine life.

The Global Pilot Program will take place at Knightsbridge International School in London and will focus on the technical development of the Seabins. Students taking part will will see what is collected by the Seabin, alongside lessons on the Seabin and marine life.

The program aims to utilise their research to gain a greater understanding of the effects of plastic pollution on the environment and to enhance the current product.

A full-service marina located in the Bay of Kotor (UNESCO World Heritage Site), Porto Montenegro will as act as ambassadors in the pilot program in the hope that this partnership will encourage more marinas and ports to follow their lead and participate in the data and research programs.

Porto Montenegro won The Yacht Harbour Association (TYHA) Superyacht Marina of Distinction Award 2015-2017. Holding ‘5 Gold Anchors’ – the highest accolade for service and operational standards available in the industry – Porto Montenegro is one of the fastest growing superyacht centres in the world.

Management at Porto Montenegro say they believe that responsible tourism is as much about giving back to the local community as it is about protecting the natural environment.

Porto Montenegro Marina Director, Tony Browne says “As a progressive world leading Superyacht Marina, Porto Montenegro is excited to be teaming up with the Seabin Project as a pilot partner. Maintaining a clean and rubbish free marine environment has always been important focus for Porto Montenegro.

“Partnering with Seabin Project allows us to not only improve our waterborne refuse collection methods, but to also become part of a bigger environmental initiative by way of educating the next generation in the importance of environmental awareness, and recycling and upcycling of existing refuse.”

Seabin Co-Founder and Managing Director Peter Ceglinski says “For the team at Seabin, this forward thinking, pro-active and environmentally conscious marina is both an ideal partner and location to test and trial the V5 Seabin and to further develop innovative technology and programs.”
