Offering 100% global coverage via the Iridium satellite network, both inReach units will keep marine adventurers connected, from backcountry fly fishing trips to extended offshore adventures. The units can send and receive text messages with any mobile phone number, email address or another inReach device, so users can be outside of mobile/radio range and still keep family and friends up to date with their trip and expected return home.

The inReach SE+ and inReach Explorer+ also have an interactive SOS, which triggers an emergency response from GEOS, the 24/7 search and rescue monitoring centre. After the SOS is received, inReach users are then able to communicate back and forth with GEOS about the nature of the emergency, and receive confirmation when help is on the way.

Rugged and designed to withstand the elements, inReach devices are impact resistant and have an IPX7 water rating.

A built-in high-sensitivity GPS in the inReach SE+ and inReach Explorer+ provides basic navigation, location and tracking data, so you can follow routes, drop waypoints and find your way back using an electronic bread crumb trail.

The inReach Explorer+ adds more navigation options like preloaded DeLorme topographic maps, built-in digital compass, barometric altimeter and accelerometer to help maintain accurate bearings anywhere on or off the beaten track.

Both inReach units are compatible with the web-based MapShare portal, which can send trip data (such as tracks and waypoint updates at preselected intervals) to friends and family so they can follow the owner’s whereabouts, request a location update and exchange messages.

When paired with a compatible smartphone, the inReach SE+ and inReach Explorer+ can also sync with the free Earthmate app for even more compatibility and convenience. With the Earthmate app, users can access unlimited maps, aerial imagery and other data. Optional weather updates and premium weather packages can also be delivered directly to the inReach unit.

On a single charge, the inReach SE+ and inReach Explorer+ can get up to 100 hours of battery life in tracking mode and up to 30 days in power saving mode. Every inReach device also comes with free access to a cloud-powered portal for planning trips and waypoints, synching and managing the device, storing all tracking data and more.

To access the Iridium network and communicate with an inReach SE+ or inReach Explorer+, an active satellite subscription is required. Depending on usage level, users can opt for an annual contract package or a flexible month-to-month airtime plan, which allows them to pay for service only when they need it.

Garmin inReach retails from $599, with subscription plans starting from $20 per month.
