Beneteau has unveiled the Oceanis 42, introducing a more spacious, versatile and performance-focused successor to the Oceanis 40.1 as the range celebrates its 40th anniversary.

The new Beneteau Oceanis 42 marks the next generation of the French builder’s established cruising range, combining increased exterior space, updated sailing systems and a broader selection of interior layouts.

Developed through feedback from owners, dealers and the sailing press, the 12.86-metre model also draws on operating data collected from Beneteau’s existing fleet. The findings were used to simplify onboard systems, improve ergonomics and enhance reliability.

Most of the Oceanis range continues to be manufactured in France, four decades after the first model was launched.

The Oceanis 42 combines a broad hull form with an open deck plan developed for cruising comfort and ease of movement.

An open stern configuration connects the cockpit directly with the swim platform and water.

The open-transom arrangement creates uninterrupted access between the cockpit and the sea.

Cockpit floor space has increased by 12 percent compared with the preceding Oceanis 40.1.

Integrated seating, backrests and consolidated controls are designed to make short-handed sailing easier.

A cockpit enclosure provides additional shelter for cruising in cooler or changeable conditions.

The alternative closed-stern layout adds aft seating beside the twin helm stations.

Larger seating areas and twin cockpit tables create a flexible outdoor entertaining space.

Expanded cockpit

Designed by Nauta Design, the Oceanis 42 features what Beneteau describes as the largest cockpit in the 40-foot market segment.

Cockpit floor space has increased by 12 percent compared with the Oceanis 40.1, while seating areas are 10 percent larger. Revised proportions and circulation are intended to create a more open outdoor living area without compromising security while sailing.

Two stern arrangements are available. The open configuration extends the cockpit onto the swim platform, providing direct access to the water. A closed version adds aft seating near the helm stations, creating a more enclosed social space underway.

Balanced performance

Naval architecture is by Marc Lombard Yacht Design, with the hull developed to balance sailing performance, stability and ease of handling.

Sail area has increased across the range of rig configurations – the standard furling mast is 600 millimetres taller than before, while the classic and performance masts have each gained 300 millimetres.

The twin helm stations adopt features introduced aboard the larger Oceanis 47 and Oceanis 52. Each includes integrated seating and backrests, consolidated control consoles and an engine throttle positioned directly at the helm.

The arrangement is intended to keep manoeuvres and sail adjustments within easy reach, making the yacht suitable for short-handed coastal cruising as well as longer passages.

The L-shaped galley is positioned at the foot of the companionway and includes 215 litres of refrigeration.

Expanded hull and coachroof glazing brings more natural light into the Oceanis 42 saloon.

Sand Oak timber and light upholstery give the interior a calm, contemporary character.

A bookshelf integrated into the mast bulkhead adds practical storage to the main saloon.

A dedicated desk can be used for passage planning or remote work while cruising.

The forward owner’s cabin features a generous double berth, abundant natural light and warm timber finishes.

Brighter interior

Larger glazing is a central element of the redesigned interior. Hull windows in the saloon and cabins are 2.5 times larger than those aboard the preceding model, while expanded coachroof glazing brings additional natural light into the accommodation.

Adding to the vessel’s refined interior, Sand Oak timber is paired with solid wood edging, with three interior upholstery schemes available: Ivory, Sunset and Pacific.

The saloon includes a dedicated desk for passage planning or remote work, along with a bookshelf integrated into the mast bulkhead, and electrical controls grouped within a cabinet beside the companionway.

Positioned at the base of the companionway, the L-shaped galley is designed to remain secure while the yacht is heeled and connected to the cockpit when at anchor. Refrigeration capacity totals 215 litres.

Five layouts

Beneteau offers five accommodation configurations aboard the Oceanis 42, ranging from a two-cabin, one-head owner’s layout to a four-cabin, two-head arrangement developed for charter use.

Three-cabin versions can be specified with one, two or three bathrooms.

Buyers can also choose between two interior galley arrangements. Alongside the L-shaped configuration, a longitudinal galley provides a longer benchtop intended to support shared living aboard.

Sand Oak is available across the owner-oriented layouts, while the four-cabin charter version can be specified in a darker and more durable Laos Teak finish.
