Youth team selected

Australian Sailing has chosen the youth team for the world championships in December.

Australian Sailing has named the team that will represent the nation at the 2026 Youth Sailing World Championships in Vilamoura, Portugal, from 11 to 19 December.

The selected sailors were officially welcomed to the Australian Youth Sailing Team on 7 July, joining Australian Sailing Chief Executive Officer Malcolm Page OAM, coaches, support staff and fellow team members as preparations began for the championship.

Page congratulated the sailors on earning national selection, saying “Selection to represent Australia at the Youth Sailing World Championships is a significant achievement and reflects the dedication and commitment these sailors have shown throughout their development in our sport.”

Vilamoura Marina located in the Algarve region of southern Portugal will host the Youth Sailing World Championships in December 2026.

“The Youth Sailing World Championships provide a unique opportunity to challenge themselves, learn from expert coaches, their teammates and other sailors from around the world, and create memories that will stay with them for years to come.

“We wish the team every success as they prepare to represent Australia.”

Following the team welcome, sailors will take part in a series of virtual sessions covering travel and logistics, venue preparation, team expectations and the responsibilities associated with representing Australia.

The athletes will continue their on-water training through their home clubs and class programs, supported by club and class coaches.

Australian Sailing said the preparation program reflected the important role clubs and class associations play in developing the country’s emerging sailors.

The team is scheduled to depart for Portugal in early December.

The Youth Sailing World Championships is World Sailing’s leading international youth regatta, bringing together emerging sailors from around the world across a range of classes and disciplines.

Beyond racing, the championship gives sailors an opportunity to gain international experience, develop independence and resilience, and build connections within the global sailing community.
