The new Vision 484 represents a significant milestone for Vision Yachts, building on the success of its award-winning Vision 444 with a larger, purpose-designed cruising catamaran offering greater accommodation, offshore capability and versatility.
Built at the company’s Knysna yard in South Africa, the 48-foot Vision 484 features an entirely new hull form, deck layout and interior arrangement rather than an extension of the existing 444 design.
The additional length provides larger cabins, an expanded saloon and galley, increased stowage and more generous workspaces, with 2.2 metres of headroom throughout.
Designed for extended bluewater cruising, the Vision 484 combines comfortable liveaboard accommodation with the practical requirements of long-distance passagemaking.
Construction uses epoxy-infused composite structures with closed-cell foam cores for the hull, deck and bulkheads. The design incorporates 18 watertight compartments along each hull beneath the floorboards, together with two-stage crumple zones in the bows for additional impact protection.
With a lightship displacement of 12.7 tonnes and a payload capacity of 4.3 tonnes, the Vision 484 is engineered to accommodate the equipment, provisions and supplies required for extended cruising.
Practical offshore features include a dedicated workshop, accessible engines and onboard systems, and deck hardware configured for short-handed sailing.
Dual tack lines on the bowsprit allow a second downwind sail to be prepared in advance, reducing the need for additional trips forward during sail changes.
Available in three- or four-cabin configurations, the Vision 484 caters for cruising couples, families and owners seeking additional guest accommodation.
According to Vision Yachts, feedback from owners of the Vision 444 has played a central role in developing the new model, particularly in relation to maintenance access, onboard systems and ease of handling.
“We have never tried to build as many boats as possible. We build boats we are proud of, and then we stay involved with the people who own them,” said Vision Yachts CEO James Turner.
The Vision 484 came out of years of listening to owners who were out there, thousands of miles from us, telling us what worked and what didn’t.”
Founded in 2014, Vision Yachts specialises in bluewater cruising catamarans and deliberately limits annual production to maintain build quality and direct relationships with owners.
The company’s Vision 444 received the Best Cruising Catamaran Under 50 Feet award in the 2024 Cruising World Boat of the Year awards, recognising its emphasis on private ownership and long-distance cruising.
The first Vision 484 is scheduled to launch in Knysna in March 2027, followed by its US debut during Vision Days in the first half of 2027 and subsequent presentations in Europe.
The first five production slots have already been sold, with pricing starting at US$1.5 million for a ready-to-sail configuration.
Vision Yachts is represented internationally, including in Australia and New Zealand.
