The legendary boat builder Christoph Rassy has silently passed away at the age of 87.

Aged 87, the legendary boat builder, Christoph Rassy has passed away. No other person has meant so much to the Swedish sailing yacht industry as he did. Hallberg-Rassy is today a cruising sailing icon worldwide.

Christoph Rassy was born in Germany 1934 and came to Sweden in 1960 with two empty hands to build sailing yachts. The rest is history. You may read about the Hallberg-Rassy history here.

In December 2020 Christoph Rassy received the very honourable Lifetime Achievement Award at Boat Builder Awards, arranged by Metstrade (Marine equipment trade show) and IBI (International Boat Industry).

The jury gives this prize to somebody who has “earned a significant impact on the boatbuilding business in his career, and is a great ambassador for boating and the love of boats”.

The boat yard Hallberg-Rassy is in family ownership and family management. For the past 19 years, the company group is headed and owned by Magnus Rassy, one of Christoph’s two sons.
