Crosbie Lorimer is a freelance photojournalist who writes, illustrates and photographs for all things sailing. It’s an unusual but productive combination of skills that arises in large part from his design background and lifelong involvement in sailing, from dinghies and windsurfers to offshore yachts and sail training ships.
Arriving in Sydney from England on secondment with his company as a Landscape Architect in 1989 “for a year”, he picked up the sailing scene where he’d left off in England, windsurfing and racing yachts inshore and offshore, including three Rolex Sydney Hobarts.
After five years racing Farr 40s and having married later in life than most, he decided it was time to give the competitive racing scene away and segued into sailing media, now sharing that role with his videographer wife Dale in their company Bow Caddy Media.
Crosbie’s considerable sailing experience informs his photography and he’s kindly shared some of his favourite shots, explaining how they came about.
