The Sydney Hobart Yacht Race by Rob Mundle is the story of one of the world’s greatest sporting challenges, an event where men and women from all walks of life are inspired and challenged by the beauty and power of nature.

Mundle will present the book on 17 December at The Australian Maritime Museum. The talk will also include the opportunity to see the opening of a new exhibition Challenging, Thrilling Racing, charting the history of the blue water classic, with stunning photography by acclaimed photographers Andrea Francolini, Carlo Borlenghi and Richard Bennett.

Mundle will be doing an in-conversation event talking about the book and the race; and then he’ll be around to sign copies of the book.

Rob Mundle has competed in the race on three occasions and reported on it for both newspapers and television for more than fifty years. The pinnacle of his many writing achievements is the international bestselling book Fatal Storm, the powerful story of the tragic 1998 Sydney Hobart race.

‘Put simply, this race demands multiple skills: it’s like combining football, flying and surfing then coupling that with the endurance of a marathon runner.

“Add to that the luck of the draw that comes with playing poker, and the skill of a chess player in planning and forward strategy, and you have the formula,” says Mundle in an extract from The Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.

The 628-nautical mile course is often described as the most gruelling long ocean race in the world, a challenge to everyone who takes part. A team effort as much as a personal challenge where one mistake can lead to defeat, while success can deliver national and international acclaim.

Rob Mundle book presentation is free but people do need to register as there’s limited space.
