As a result of the growing impact of COVID-19, sailing clubs across New South Wales are advising members and sailors of the necessary precautions.

In light of recent developments relating to the increased affects of the COVID-19 pandemic, a number of New South Wales sailing clubs have provided updates concerning their sailing and community events and activities.

As more developments occur, we will endeavour to keep this list as update to date as possible.

The latest advice is as follows:

CYCA:

  • All internal and external functions, events, seminars and meetings at CYCA until 30 April 2020 will be cancelled with immediate effect. The Board will revisit the position on such events beyond 30 April 2020 in two weeks’ time.
  • All competitive sailing events of which CYCA is the Organising Authority taking place between 18 March 2020 and Easter Monday (13th April), will be cancelled with immediate effect. The Board will revisit the position on sailing events beyond this date in two weeks’ time to make a call on the Winter Series.

  • All youth sailing and associated programs will be cancelled with immediate effect until at least 30 April 2020.
  • Only Members of the Club and up to two invited guests may enter the Clubhouse premises at any one time. Non-Members who are not accompanied by a Member may no longer enter regardless of their place of abode.
  • In line with the announced restrictions by the Prime Minister, the maximum number of persons who may be in the licenced area of the Club is 100 people. This will be strictly enforced and does not include persons outside of the main Clubhouse.
  • The Marina will continue to operate as normal.
  • Internal meetings are limited to four persons being present at any one time and our people are encouraged to work from home where possible.
  • Members are expected to abide by the guidance issued by Interim CEO Justine Kirkjian from time to time as they relate to social distancing.
  • the postponement of the PONANT Sydney Noumea Yacht Race until June/July 2021
  • the postponement (but likely cancellation) of the Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race

ROYAL SYDNEY YACHT SQUADRON:

  • All organised sailing and training activity for the season has been cancelled, including All Saturday racing (Summer Series, Mini A’s, Mini B’s, Varuna Trophy race), Sunday Twilight, PONANT Friday Twilight and Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday Youth Dinghy Sailing activities.
  • Forthcoming Squadron events are postponed e.g. Wine tastings, Wine Dinner, Book Club, Cruising Division, Literary Lunch, Friday Twilight Presentation Dinner.
  • The Club will not be hosting large functions before 1 May.

MHYC:

  • All sailing events cancelled until further notice.
  • Junior sailing program and schools program suspended.
  • The Club will remain open for business as usual.
  • Please be advised the marina remains open and will be operating as normal.

ROYAL PRINCE ALFRED YACHT CLUB:

  • this week’s racing calendar will continue to run as scheduled on Wednesday, Thursday Twilights, Saturday Inshore, Centreboard and the final Tuesday Women’s Twilight race.
  • Following Tuesday Women’s Twilight Race (24 March), all racing will be cancelled until further notice.
  • The Optimist NSW State Championship 2020 scheduled for 28-29 March has been postponed by the NSW Optimist Association.
  • Halyards Bar & Bistro will open from 8am to 3pm daily.
  • Forthcoming RPAYC events are postponed until further notice – these include: Sail Expo (21-22 March), Pittwater to Coffs Harbour Race (3 April)

NEWCASTLE CRUISING YACHT CLUB:

The Club has increased its cleaning regime across the Clubhouse

  • The Nor East Bistro and Bar will remain open for lunch and dinner
  • All club sailing events are cancelled until further notice
  • All sailing academy courses are cancelled
  • SailFest – Newcastle Regatta has been cancelled
  • The Newcastle – Port Stephens Race has been cancelled
