The team of Havoc, skippered by Iain Murray with Colin Beashel and Richard Allanson, took out the 2019 Etchells World Champions hosted by Corpus Christi Yacht Club in a thrilling battle.
“The coolest thing is sailing with my mates, just for the love of it, which makes a nice change. I have had a big break from the class, but you come back wiser and smarter,” said Murray to race media.
Consistency was key for Havoc’s crew, never dipping below seventh place over nine races.
It was the first time using new Australian-built Etchells, with Havoc and Magpie made their international debut at the championship.
The team on Magpie, skippered by Graeme Taylor with James Mayo and Tom Slingsby, was the big winner with another first place finish on the final day and a second place overall for the regatta.
Also among the Australians was last year’s winner Martin Hill and also Chris Hampton.
