Global mobile satellite communication brand Inmarsat has launched its latest webinar earlier this month, unveiling the first of a six-part series on sailing in an increasingly digitalised world earlier this month.

Named The Digital Yacht Series, the initiative will explore how the rapid connectivity and digital technology in the yachting sector has revolutionised sailing as a whole.

With an hour-long episode released each month, different topics regarding superyacht management, the onboard experience, enhancing elite racing performance and improving safety and cybersecurity will be explored.

Hosting each episode will be Inmarsat Yachting Ambassador Nick Moloney, joined by a select expert panel to discuss each topic.

“By providing analysis of each topic, the digitalisation initiative will highlight future trends and opportunities, demonstrate how technology and systems already in place are benefiting the world’s best sailors, superyacht professionals and crew, and yacht designers and managers,” reads the Digital Yacht Series website.

“And, crucially, outline how these solutions can be used and adapted by a range of mariners for different applications.”

The first episode of the series, named Performance Sailing and The Ocean Race, was introduced by an interview between Maloney Simon Fisher, 11th Hour’s Navigator, as he prepared for The Ocean Race Europe 2021 and The Ocean Race 2022–23.

Last month, Inmarsat was named the official satellite communications for this year’s The Ocean Race Europe and The Ocean Race 2022–2023.

You can watch the full Performance Sailing and The Ocean Race video, and register for the upcoming five webinars, from the Digital Yacht Series website.
