Mornington Yacht Club will host the 2027 Victorian State Championships for the Optimist, 420 and 29er classes over the Labour Day long weekend, 6 to 8 March 2027.

Mornington Yacht Club (MYC) will bring the three junior and youth classes together at one venue for their respective Victorian State Championships, creating a major multi-class regatta on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula.
Working with the Victorian Optimist, 420 and 29er associations, MYC will stage each class as an independent State Championship while competitors share the club’s facilities and racing waters.
The combined championships build on MYC’s focus on multi-class training camps and sailing programs designed to provide young sailors with accessible pathways through the sport.

The club has brought the Optimist, 420 and 29er fleets together through previous camps, providing opportunities for sailors to develop their skills while building connections with competitors across different classes.
The 2027 championships will be a significant event on the 2026–27 Victorian sailing calendar and form part of MYC’s broader commitment to developing junior and youth racing.
Momentum is already building at the club, with MYC hosting 65 sailors across four classes for training this weekend, supported by 10 coaches. A strong fleet is also expected for the Schnapper Point Regatta in February 2027.
“We talk a lot about pathways in sailing, but really it’s about possibilities. Every sailor finds their own way through the sport, and the more of those possibilities kids can see, the more likely they are to stick with it,” said MYC Sailing Manager Melissa Warren.
Further information from Mornington Yacht Club and the respective class associations will be released as arrangements for the championships are finalised.
