Seawind Catamarans has hosted the official launch of the Seawind 1270, a new-generation model designed to redefine comfort, performance and style.

The Seawind 1270 is the next evolution of the award-winning Seawind 1260, voted the World’s Best Cruising Catamaran under 50ft by USA Cruising World Magazine judges in 2019.  The new Seawind 1270 builds on this reputation and stays true to the brand’s core philosophy: “cruising catamarans for real sailors”.

The new design is the culmination of extensive design and engineering resulting in a stronger, lighter and faster performance cruiser with increased safety and ergonomic comfort throughout.

The company’s vision was to analyse and improve every aspect of the previous 1260 model, listening to advice from a large number of cruising owners, and resulting in what we believe will be the absolute best 42-foot performance cruising catamaran in the world, with many significant changes with this new generation.

“With the Seawind 1270, our team took a new approach to design and styling, as the result of decades of refinement in catamaran design, drawing from our proven Seawind DNA,” said Richard Ward, CEO of Seawind Catamarans / Corsair Marine International.

“We set out to create the best possible 42-foot catamaran in the world for our customers by listening to what sailors really need. We’ve preserved our essential features our owners love, introducing modern lines and exciting new features whilst also utilising the latest technology and engineering.

“We’ve focused on delivering an incredible blend of safety, comfort and performance, ensuring the ultimate cruising experience for our customers in its class, while still feeling like a true home on the water.

“The Seawind 1270’s tagline, ‘Built For Adventure. Designed For Life’, perfectly encapsulates how we’ve achieved that balance, and I’m excited to add the Seawind 1270 as another chapter in our rich history of building very capable performance cruising catamarans.”

The Seawind 1270 inherits the best values from her predecessor, while incorporating new developments and advances in technology and materials now standard across the entire Seawind range.

Key Features and Specifications:

Immediately apparent is the new exterior styling in keeping with the “new” modern Seawind look developed with our recent Seawind 1170 and 1370 models.

The foredeck and front beam have been raised to create flat decks from stern to stem. This has improved open ocean capability but also massively increased interior volume, especially in the forward queen bed cabins.

The new Seawind 1270 is 400-millimetres longer and 120-millimetres wider offering greater interior comfort, stability and performance. Like all Seawinds, the new 1270 is designed and built to Category A, unlimited offshore certification.

The hulls are now 60-millimetres wider with a new underwater hull shape that retains the gentle windward experience but is optimised for increased performance and speed both on & off the wind. The extra 60-millimetre width combined with more vertical topsides provide significantly more interior space.

The 1270 is available in either the three cabin, galley down version which has been a hallmark of Seawind’s success over many years or the beautifully designed three cabin, galley up version. Within the galley up version, a forward-facing navigation station has been added.

In the saloon, the much-loved day bed has been retained as have the huge forward facing opening windows, designed & built to Category A certification for open ocean sailing. Like all Seawinds, high importance has been given to assuring excellent 360-degree vision, ergonomics, and ventilation.

Increased safety has been achieved, both at sea and in the marina with side access gates and extended transoms for easy boarding and 800mm stanchions with four lifelines for security at sea.

The new Seawind 1270 is designed for strength and safety at sea, but also with improved performance through optimisation of laminate design and extensive use of carbon in high stress areas.

The cabin roof is designed for extensive solar panels with a maximum capacity 2040W. The cabin roof also serves as an efficient rain catcher.

Standard propulsion is twin 29hp Yanmar diesels. However, a hybrid electric propulsion option is planned for a late 2026 release.

The Seawind 1270 made its world premiere via a global livestream on 28 September, giving audiences a first look at the vessel and creative idea behind this design from Richard Ward and his team.

Following the online premiere, the Seawind 1270 will be officially introduced to the public at the Annapolis Boat Show 2025.

“While the Seawind 1270 is a completely new tooling project, it will be produced by the same experienced Seawind 1260 production team,” Ward said.

“This ensures the Seawind 1270 production will benefit from Seawind’s experienced workforce working in this same 40 to 45-foot range, who have established exceptional craftmanship and finish from our manufacturing facility in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.”

Production of the Seawind 1270 is scheduled to begin in November 2025, with all new tooling currently underway and an estimated completion for hull #1 in June 2026.

The official campaign featuring the physical boat will follow in the second half of 2026, with details to be announced at a later date.
