In the wake of last week’s press conference, held 13 April, organisers of the 2021 North Sea Regatta have confirmed that this year’s competition will be cancelled.
This year’s regatta was scheduled to commence 11 May and conclude 21 May in the Dutch North Sea Coast.
Organisers have not named an official reason for the cancellation but the decision trails last month’s announcement that two out of the three scheduled races – the North Sea Race and the Vuurschepen Race – will be cut this year due to travel restrictions with the UK.
Both the North Sea Regatta and the Jachtclub Scheveningen attempted to salvage the event by hosting a brand-new event, the NSR C-19 Windmill Race.
“We are disappointed that we had to make this decision after all our planning efforts for the additional program started to take shape,” read a press release released by organisers.
The North Sea Regatta is an annual sailing event held during the Whitsun and Ascension holiday period and is currently the largest sailing event held along the Dutch North Sea Coast.
This year would’ve marked the 75th anniversary of the North Sea Regatta Offshore Race.
