The 2022 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show begins 19 May and, set in an idyllic waterfront location, is the ultimate showcase of boats, brands and trends.

16 May 2022

This year’s Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (SCIBS), 19 to 22 May, promises to thrill newcomers and old hands alike with a profusion of boats, aquatic lifestyle products and luxury accoutrements on show.

Unique to SCIBS, the Marine Village is a vibrant, waterfront precinct with a tantalising mix of bars, cafes and restaurants for visitors to savour, socialise and soak up the autumn sunshine. Even beyond boats, there’s still so much to see and do within the Sanctuary Cove enclave.

Set within the manicured golf courses, verdant gardens, Marina Village and world-class marina is the InterContintental Sanctuary Cove Resort, famous for its lagoon pool and beach club. Along with its 251 recently refurbished guest rooms and suites, the resort comprises four restaurants and bars and 15 indoor and outdoor event venues. International and interstate guests are transfixed by the tropical surrounds, and even more so by the kangaroos who feed at dawn and dusk that are likely to hop across a pathway unannounced.

For those who have time to stay and play, Sanctuary Cove is home to two of the country’s most prestigious and challenging golf courses – the Arnold Palmer-designed The Pines golf course and The Palms, which sets the global benchmark for master-planned communities. And, for families, the beaches, theme parks, outlet shopping and wildlife experiences are always a drawcard.

“There’s nothing like SCIBS,” says Greg Haines, Dealer Principal of Princess Yachts, based at Sanctuary Cove. “It’s the most social boat show – beautiful location, great weather, incredible ambience. It’s the show everyone looks forward to.”

SCIBS General Manager Johan Hasser says, “In 2022, there’s a real influx of exhibitors with new boats and accessories.

“The Show is 25 to 30 percent bigger than last year, which was a fantastic year in terms of visitation and commercial success. People don’t want to miss this year’s event and it shows in exhibitor uptake and ticket sales ahead of the show. We’ve never seen anything like it!”

Getting there

SCIBS provides free Park ‘n’ Ride services from Warner Bros. Movie World and Dreamworld, with regular complimentary shuttle buses. Buses, ferries and water taxis, as well as ride-share services, are other options.

Private vessels can anchor in the Coomera River in the vicinity of Sanctuary Cove and VMR Southport will transport guests to and from the event for a gold coin donation. Vessel owners can request their services on VHF channel 73.

Then, there’s the ultimate approach via chopper, giving visitors a bird’s eye view of the Gold Coast in all its glory. Helicopter transfers are available from the Marina Mirage Heliport for $100 one way or $180 return, per person.

The Pavilions

Traditionally the entry point for the boat show, The Pavilions will be packed to the gunwales with high-tech nav equipment, safety gear, boating and fishing accessories, apparel and ingenious gadgets. More than 1,000 products will be on display, covering every aspect of the on-water lifestyle.

Stella Marine returns as The Pavilions’ sponsor with all the latest premium marine equipment, including the unveiling of Stella’s Aquarius Watermaker and a new addition to its brands, the Navigator range of chairs.

Raymarine/FLIR will bring the full Raymarine electronics portfolio and FLIR marine thermal camera range to the 2022 show, including the Australian debut of the new Cyclone solid-state open-array radar with innovative detection capabilities and YachtSense Link mobile marine router.

Navico will present a comprehensive range of Lowrance, B&G, Simrad Yachting, C-MAP and JL Audio products for avid sailors, anglers and boaties looking to upgrade to the latest chart systems.

Garmin Australasia General Manager Matthew Thomas says there has been substantial demand for marine technology products across the Garmin, Fusion and Navionics brand ranges ahead of SCIBS.

Quality Marine Clothing will be at SCIBS in full force with a bigger stand this year showcasing apparel for sailing, crew uniforms and lifestyle gear such as jackets, vests and fleeces.

“SCIBS is a major show for us,” says Managing Director Tony Liddy. “It’s the opportunity to network and show our products to potential customers in the industry and the superyacht sector. It’s a great B2B event.”

The Lagoon Lounge

The Lagoon Lounge is a tranquil oasis amid the sometimes frenetic boat show, providing an upper-deck luxury destination for visitors to socialise and savour the superyacht lifestyle or entertain clients in an exclusive enclave.

Guests enjoy a veritable smorgasbord of delectable cuisine and premium beverages catered by the five-star InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort.

Occupying prime space, The Lagoon Lounge overlooks the newly completed Superyacht Marina arm and iconic Lagoon Pool at the InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort and, following its sell-out debut last year, will double in size in 2022.

“The Lagoon Lounge is a secluded private haven and the perfect vantage point to enjoy the show, with access to the marina and within view of a sensational line-up of superyachts,” said SCIBS General Manager Johan Hasser. “It’s an experience that’s unique in Australia, more akin to European boat shows, yet totally accessible.”

VIP Passes are priced from $299 per person and VVIP upgrade admission is set at $449 per person. More at

The Sports Leisure and Fishing Precinct is made up of three zones and will showcase all things trailerable, including RIBS and tenders, PWC, boats up to 7 metres, winches and anchors as well as engine brands, including Volvo-Penta, Seapower, Suzuki, Yamaha and Electric Marine. The automotive showcase will begin at the entrance to the Marine Village with a Land Rover display.

In 2022, Major Sponsor Bentley Brisbane and Gold Coast celebrates its ten-year association with SCIBS and will commemorate this milestone with a monumental display of motoring opulence. On show is a custom fleet of four Mulliner Collection cars, specially commissioned for this year’s show.

Clinton Wright, Group Marketing Manager, Bentley Brisbane and Gold Coast said SCIBS was a significant event for prestige auto marques. “It’s the ideal lifestyle opportunity,’ he says. “Our brands align and we always have a great time meeting new customers and entertaining and engaging with current clients.”

For autophiles and dreamers, there’s a host of diverse sports and high-performance vehicles to admire, including Maserati, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, McLaren and Ferrari.

On the Marina

In what promises to be the show’s largest display of vessels on water, over 200 boats – from superyachts and multihulls to super tenders and ski boats – will jostle for attention during the four-day event. In addition, a vast selection of new models from Australian boat brands and leading international manufacturers will also make their debut.

Maritimo will host the global launches of three models – the M60 Flybridge Motor Yacht alongside the M600 Offshore Flybridge and S600 Offshore Sedan models. Maritimo’s Lead Designer Tom Barry-Cotter says, “We’re very excited to be displaying these magnificent vessels for the first time and are confident visitors to our display will recognise them as truly world-class luxury motor yachts.”

The three global launches will headline a six-model on-water display, which includes the Maritimo M55 Flybridge, M60 Flybridge, M600 Offshore, S600 Offshore, S55 Sedan and X50 Sport models.

The new M60 Flybridge Motor Yacht sets new benchmarks for available deck space within its class, while the global launch of the M600 Offshore Motor Yacht marks the first model within the sensational new Offshore Series for Maritimo.

With a long list of orders already secured for the Offshore flybridge variant since the Offshore Series was first unveiled virtually in 2021, the M600 Offshore now takes the mantle of ultimate bluewater, offshore cruising flybridge motor yacht.

The third Global Launch is the S600 Offshore Motor Yacht, which combines the functionality of the offshore cockpit and open-water fishing practicality with a single-level sedan design. It incorporates a unique hardtop design that maximises the often unused sedan hardtop as a utility deck space for storage of tender or other items, freeing up deck spaces.

Alexander Marine Australia will host the highly anticipated World Debut of the Ocean Alexander 28 Explorer.

Expanding on the popular Revolution series and drawing on owner feedback, the Explorer series takes the incredible interior volume and accommodation Ocean Alexander is renowned for and elevates them, adding impressive exterior amenities. Ocean Alexander enjoyed a healthy and robust 2021 with double-digit growth, which has continued into 2022. Alexander Marine Australia dealer principal and director Todd Holzapfel said Ocean Alexander motor yachts suit the often-challenging cruising waters around Australia and New Zealand.

“It’s the perfect family motor yacht given the total volume and size of the flybridge, and it’s extremely manageable. When people come on board they’re impressed by the sheer volume and the superior fit-out and finish.”
