A sense of joy filled the air at Southern Wind HQ in Cape Town where the shipyard launched SØRVIND, the fifth unit of the acclaimed SW105 project.
Originating from the solid collaboration between Southern Wind, Nauta Design and Farr Yacht Design, SØRVIND is the perfect synthesis of the owner’s vision to build: “a high performance bluewater yacht for fast and comfortable sailing that embodies a Nordic Cool spirit”.
With a brief only seemingly simple, Southern Wind had its work cut out and was able to tick all the boxes thanks to the precise craftsmanship and attention to detail that is a hallmark of every Southern Wind yacht.
SØRVIND was conceived to ensure sheer sailing pleasure and reliability without compromising on comfort.

Together with their partners, Southern Wind worked closely with the owner and his team to deliver an optimised version of the SW105 that meets a brief for a yacht that will be a joy to sail while also being successful on the luxury charter market.
A special assembly process between full carbon hull, deck and bulkheads was developed with weight saving in mind and major gains were achieved by selecting an environmentally friendly Flexiteek deck teamed with titanium deck hardware.
All features were geared towards building a 69,500-kilogram yacht that can sail in lighter wind conditions with a reduced dependency on engine power.
Similar to her SW105 sisterships Wolfhound and Kiboko Tres, SW105#05 features a Raised Saloon (RS) configuration that allows natural light to flood the interior.
Coachroof design and geometries were slightly modified and softened to give SØRVIND a sporty and elegant appearance.
A tender garage and optimised lazarettes were designed to accommodate a 4.3-metre jet tender plus sea kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, wind foils and many more toys including a pair of road bikes for exhilarating fun both on water and ashore.
Moving on to the interior, this yacht features the typical Southern Wind owner’s cabin forward layout with three additional well-appointed ensuite guest cabins amidships. The aft crew area is an efficient living and working environment for up to six crew in three cabins.
Nordic cool will be the style of the interior, a design that the owner found well-conceived on the SW96 Seatius. SW105#05 entrusted the same team that helped Seatius to win the Best Sailing Yacht Interior award in 2018: Nauta Design acting as interior designer with the help of Jeroen Machielsen from the Dutch Studio Hermanides for the decoration.
Marco Alberti, Southern Wind’s Director and General Manager, welcomed the yacht and her owners with these worlds: “I wish Sørvind owners exciting sailing experiences. Our yachts are built to reach uncharted waters, so I wish them unforgettable experiences sailing and discovering the world.”
SØRVIND, the newest member of the close-knit Southern Wind family, will undertake extensive sea trials before departing Cape Town for her maiden voyage to the Mediterranean.
