Summer of Sailing heats up

Spectacular sailing is on offer in south-east Queensland as the Summer of Sailing gets underway.

Entries from Skippers ‘in the know’, are hotting up for the Summer of Sailing Series Australia, with a rush of entries received from skippers over the past few weeks.

These savvy skippers are set to not only enjoy some spectacular sailing over the coming months, but they’ll also benefit from the fantastic series bonus of $1k SYC Club Cash, free berthing at Southport Yacht Club Marina for their selected events and they’ll be in the running for bragging rights and trophy accolades of the series.

Confirmed Summer of Sailing Series Entrants include: Wedgetail skippered by David Rose, Ignition skippered by Anton Prange, Aramex skippered by Steve Curtis, Blue Eagle skippered by Stephen Brough, Vamp skippered by Brent McDonald, Touche skippered by Greg Watson, Kerisma skippered by Chris Larsen, Blunderbuss skippered by Danielle Hutcheson, Just Kiddin skippered by Matthew Percy, Rumba skippered by Peter Karlovic, Quality Marine Black Diamond skippered by Glenn Burrell, Circe skippered by Lea Foster, 38 skippered by Greg Tobin, Cool Change skippered by Colin Metcher.

Southport Yacht Club’s series partners Queensland Cruising Yacht Club and Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron are also seeing an increase in entrants into their events of the series, with Sailing Members from all clubs able to choose from several major sailing events over three months from November 2022 through to January 2023.

Events include Ted Elkes Memorial Regatta (inc. Qld Yachting Champs) (SYC) – Cat 6 (19 & 20 Nov, Brisbane to Paradise Yacht Race (RQYS) – Cat 3N (28 December), Qoin Sail Paradise 2023 (SYC) – Cat 6 (2 to 6 January), Julian Rocks Yacht Race (SYC) – Cat 3N (14 & 15 January) and Surf to City Yacht Race (Ocean Course) (QCYC) – Cat 4 uprated (OD), Cat 5N (ID) (21 January).

“It’s fantastic to see the Southeast Queensland’s premier Yacht Clubs working together to deliver this series of events,” said Southport Yacht’s Club Vice Commodore of Sailing Glenn Burrell.

“We have a unified vision to provide Sailing Members from all clubs with a great variety of sailing events and to increase the exposure of elite sailing competition in South-East. This will in turn elevate the sport of sailing in our region for the enjoyment of competitors and spectators alike.”

The Summer of Sailing Series Australia is headlined by Southport Yacht Clubs Premier Flagship Event Qoin Sail Paradise 2023 Regatta, which will run from Monday 2 to Friday 6 January 2023.
