Nautor Swan has begun construction of the Swan Alloy 44, the brand's largest sailing yacht destined for owner, Massimo Perotti, Executive Chairman of Sanlorenzo.

The milestone construction of the first Swan Alloy 44 marks the birth of the Swan Alloy line of aluminium sailing yachts exceeding 40 metres, which expands the brand’s legendary sailing DNA into the superyacht arena. It will be the largest sailing yacht ever created by the iconic Finnish shipyard and the first aluminium yacht in its 60-year history.

Commencing construction at Gouwerok Shipyard in the Netherlands, specialists in aluminium yacht fabrication have begun welding the first structural sections, including the keel and engine room foundations.

Once the aluminium hull and deck are completed, the yacht will be transported to Viareggio, Italy, for final outfitting and delivery, with launch scheduled for 2028.

Designed by renowned naval architect Malcolm McKeon, the Swan Alloy 44 represents a significant evolution for the Finnish shipyard, combining Swan’s heritage of performance sailing with the architectural possibilities of aluminium construction.

The interiors have been entrusted to Studio Liaigre, based in Paris, which in its latest projects has expressed a distinctive approach combining innovation, elegance, and style, perfectly aligned with a new product set to become a benchmark in the large yacht market.

The objective is to deliver a high level of comfort, with spaces designed to ensure exceptional livability and an outstanding onboard experience.

Among those attending the start of construction was Massimo Perotti, Executive Chairman of Sanlorenzo and the first Alloy yacht’s owner.

“This is my first sailing yacht, and I feel a special emotion after so many motor yachts,” said Perotti.

For Nautor Swan, this project opens a new chapter. It takes the brand into dimensions never explored before, while remaining faithful to the values that have defined Swan for 60 years.”

At 43.5 metres in length with a beam of 9.45 metres, the Swan Alloy 44 will feature a telescopic keel, allowing a variable draft from 4.30 to 6.30 metres.

With an estimated gross tonnage of 299 GT, the yacht offers exceptional interior volume and freedom for bespoke design. The mast will be produced by Southern Spars, with sails by Doyle.

From a technical standpoint, the new Swan Alloy will feature dual-energy technology, building on the dual-power propulsion experience developed both by Sanlorenzo, with its hybrid models, and by Nautor Swan with the 51, 88, and 128.

The goal is to achieve full energy autonomy, with onboard generation and storage of energy while sailing.

The project brings together a highly collaborative design and engineering team. Malcolm McKeon Design worked closely with the new Italian division of the Nautor Swan Group, whose Technical Office collaborated with the New Product Development team and the Finnish yard to create a yacht that respects Swan’s iconic aesthetic while harnessing the structural and design advantages of aluminium.

Studio Liaigre is responsible for the interiors.

While constructed in the Netherlands and Italy, the project remains deeply rooted in the Finnish shipyard’s expertise.

Nautor Swan’s team continues to oversee key elements of the program, including design philosophy, performance studies, and supply-chain coordination.

The Swan Alloy 44 also reflects the strategic vision guiding Nautor Swan’s next phase of growth under the custodianship of Sanlorenzo. By combining Swan’s sailing heritage with Sanlorenzo’s superyacht expertise, the project establishes a new benchmark in large performance sailing yachts.
