With the advent of solid wing technology Dixon Yacht Design has conjured a sail assisted, sub-500GT Catamaran to offer excellent accommodation and exterior leisure deck space.

Introducing 39.98-metre SY Dragonfly, where innovative engineering meets luxurious comfort.

True to her name, this striking design offers the incredible feature of being able to tilt her wings under passage to reduce her air draft to a little under 40-inches. Just imagine what navigation opportunities this could unlock for an owner’s cruising plans.

The Aero Wing Sail has been developed by Rondal and is crafted from lightweight materials, similar in fabrication to an aircraft wing.

It is free-standing with the ability to rotate fully around its vertical axis. Multiple flaps adjust the camber to control the wing’s power. To depower, these flaps can twist along the span, even inverting at the top to create a righting moment.

When at rest, the wings feathers freely, and for inclement weather conditions they can furl horizontally.

The General Arrangement has been developed in partnership with the team from Michael Leach Design who bring with them considerable experience in the design of large Super Yacht Catamarans.

A large on-deck saloon ensures a connection with the aft deck beach/social areas free from unsightly tenders which have been located amidships. A multi height bathing platform provides comfortable access to the water.

The accommodation in the foreship can be configured as a single Owners suite or as two VIP’s cabins with a sliding partition between the two. Direct access is provided onto the foredeck. Four generous guest cabins have been accommodated in the hull with the crew quarters/mess/utility located forward.

The upper deck is unusually open, with forward and aft visibility through the boat. Sliding glazing panels provide shelter from the wind at anchor. Eco options include Solar Panels integrated into the superstructure with an option for coverage on the Wings.

Louvred glazing panels cover the upper dining and bar areas for ventilation. External helm position offering excellent visibility for navigation.

Built of part recycled aluminium alloy, a propeller energy recovery system and solar harvesting, this yacht caters to customers passionate about sailing sustainability without wanting to compromise on living space, functionality and luxury.
