Xc47 impresses

The Xc47 has been nominated for European Yacht of the Year 2024.

X-Yachts latest model, the Xc47 has been nominated for the highest accolade in yachting – European Yacht of the Year 2024.

A 12-person jury voted for the Xc47 to be among the finalists for the European Yacht of the Year.

X-Yachts Australian & New Zealand Managing Director, Kevin Wallis said the European Yacht of the Year Award is the most important, influential and most widely communicated boatbuilding prize worldwide, often referred to as the “Oscars of yachting”.

“The concept is built on years of experience and a desire to accommodate the growing number of sailors looking for a true bluewater cruiser,” he said.

The hull lines have maintained the deep V-shaped bow sections, generous rocker, and higher stern overhang from previous Xc models.

The Xc 47 was designed as the ideal bluewater cruiser.

Areas exposed to high loads are reinforced with carbon fiber, a part of making the yacht stronger without adding excess weight.

The cockpit layout has been designed to give the helmsman the capability of handling all lines.

The semi deck saloon provides a better view of the surroundings, when under deck with more natural light, and an opportunity for multilevel floors.

Danish design and architecture are famous for clean and timeless style.

Xc 47 offers 3-cabin standard layout and a 2-cabin version with optional starboard aft layout.

The nomination and voting process involves all members of the 12-strong jury pre-select the most promising new sailing yachts in the first five months of the year.

They upload specifications, sailplans and renderings as well as comments to an intranet. This database is the common source of information for the nomination process that took place in June.

Once the top candidates in each category are chosen, the yards are informed and the sea trials are organised.

They usually take place before or after one of the major in-water boatshows during fall, ideally one in Northern and one in Southern Europe to keep travelling and boat deliveries to a minimum. Each of the two seatrials lasts for up to 5 days, with regular debriefings every evening when the editors get back from the boats.

The Xc47 is going through test sails in Barcelona in October and the final result of these tests will be revealed at BOOT Düsseldorf 2024, 20 to 28 January 2024, where the boat also will have its world premiere.
