The Boat Works and Gold Coast BMW have teamed up to provide customers with energy-efficient and supremely stylish BMW i3 vehicles while their boats are repaired, refit or in for maintenance.

The Boat Works can now boast the first of these nifty hybrid vehicles in the region. Featuring eDrive, the BMW i3 combines ecological conscious with impressive performance. Driven by a fully emission-free electric motor, the BMW i3 is equipped with high-voltage lithium-ion battery to deliver a range of up to 190km – enough to drive from the Gold Coast to Brisbane and back!

Topping the 2017 ACEEE Greenest List and winning Carsales Car of the Year in the Green Car category, the BMW i3 has received acclaim from motoring writers and the motoring public. Its key features are sleek, Scandinavian-themed interiors, next generation connectivity, a silent drive, no Co2 emissions, and a rapid charge time of under 30 minutes.

BMW is the technology partner for America’s Cup Defender, ORACLE Team USA, supporting its bid to win a third consecutive AC when the 35th America’s Cup begins in Bermuda, 17 June.

As Technology Partner, BMW provides its engineering competence to ORACLE Team USA in facets including design and aerodynamics to give them a competitive advantage against their five international rivals.

The team, led by skipper Jimmy Spithill, gets about on land between the Dockyard and Hamilton driving the all-electric BMW i3, thrilled with its ability to go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.2 seconds.

Back at The Boat Works, General Manager, Shane Subichin described his first drive of the compact BMW i3 as “electrifying!”

“It delivered incredible power upon acceleration – I didn’t expect it! At The Boat Works we are totally committed to environmental practices and so are our customers.

“Our customers appreciate the pristine waters that surround us and our dedication to a clean, 5-star facility, and we have decided to continue ethos on land.”

The Boat Works customers and visitors who drive their own BMW i3 are able to drop in and recharge their cars at The Boat Works’ charge point, a handy stop between Brisbane and Surfers Paradise.

While it’s recharging, customers are encouraged to refuel themselves and savour the water views and quality cuisine at the fully-licensed Galley Restaurant.

“We are very excited to partner with The Boat Works and to supply them with a range of BMW i3 and hybrid vehicles,” said Gold Coast BMW General Sales Manager, Nathan Gumbleton.

“These vehicles are an exciting and innovative look into the future of Green transport and economical driving and we are thrilled to be able to share this driving experience with each and every one of The Boat Works clients.

“To find out more please speak with the team at The Boat Works about taking one of the vehicles for a drive.”
