Tarantella returns to the start

Among the yachts expected to compete is Tarantella, the first Swan 36 and the yacht that began Nautor Swan’s production history.

Launched as hull number 001, Tarantella has undergone a detailed refit and will return to the racecourse after taking part in anniversary celebrations at Nautor Swan’s Pietarsaari yard.

She will be joined by yachts from across the builder’s history, including Swan 128 flagships, the new Swan 80 and several recently launched models.

Nautor Swan was founded by Pekka Koskenkylä in 1966 and has since built more than 2,350 sailing yachts. The company is now owned by Italian yacht builder Sanlorenzo.

Three ClubSwan divisions

The fleet will be divided across the ClubSwan Racing, ClubSwan Legacy and ClubSwan Spirit categories.

ClubSwan Racing will feature the builder’s one-design classes, including the ClubSwan 28, ClubSwan 36, ClubSwan 42, ClubSwan 43, ClubSwan 50 and Swan 45.

ClubSwan Legacy will bring together earlier generations of Swan yachts. For the first time, designs by Sparkman & Stephens and Ron Holland will race alongside Swan Classics designed by German Frers.

ClubSwan Spirit will cater for modern Swan yachts and owners focused on performance cruising and adventure sailing. A separate division will allow boats to compete in their standard cruising configuration without extensive race optimisation.

Yacht Club Costa Smeralda Commodore Andrea Recordati said the anniversary edition would retain the event’s established emphasis on both competition and community.

“Since its very first edition, the Rolex Swan Cup has been defined by its family spirit, with owners and crews returning to the waters of the Costa Smeralda and the La Maddalena Archipelago not only to race in a unique setting, but above all to gather together,” he said.

Four days of racing

Practice racing will open the on-water program on Tuesday, followed by four days of competition from Wednesday to Saturday.

The shore-side program will include an opening ceremony, an owners’ dinner marking Nautor Swan’s anniversary, the Rolex Crew Party and the final prize-giving.

Daily post-race gatherings will also be held at Piazza Azzurra in Porto Cervo.
