Gold Coast based 22-year-old sailor, Xavier Doerr is taking on one of the most challenging solo sailing campaigns, a non-stop, unassisted, solo circumnavigation of Australia in GCCM his 21-foot Mini Transat Carbon Fibre Race Yacht called GCCM: Gold Coast City Marina.

Doerr’s 21-foot racing yacht encountered a severe weather system off the West Australian coastline and had to retire to the Fremantle Sailing Club on 7 June to undergo extensive repairs.

While disappointed that this set back meant he will no longer be able to claim a non-stop unassisted and fastest record, if successful, Xavier will be the youngest solo sailor to circumnavigate Australian in the smallest boat.

As predicted, the Southern Ocean is throwing some of its finest weather at Xavier as he makes his way south towards Tasmania. His yacht, GCCM is being tossed around in what Xavier described as “exceptionally fruity conditions”. The mainsail has been pulled down and the vessel is currently doing 6 knots with just the storm sail up.

Xavier wants to thank CEO Craig, and everyone at Fremantle Sailing Club for their support when he was at FSC. They were incredible and he can’t wait to celebrate with them when he finishes.
