The 2021 Australian Sailing Awards will be celebrated virtually due to the ongoing uncertainty around the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions, forcing the cancellation of the annual gala dinner in Sydney for the second year in a row.
Whilst other locations for the function were considered, the risks associated with organising a national dinner were considered to be too great at this time.
Nominations for the Awards closed last week, with judging for the State Awards now underway.
The winners of the state awards automatically become the nominees for the National Awards, with national winners set to be announced in November.
Several states are planning to host events to announce and celebrate the winners of their awards where it is safe to do so.

These will be celebrated in-person where possible, but also via a range of digital celebrations across Australian Sailing channels.
Queensland, Tasmania and Western Australia will be hosting Awards events, you can find out more information about those events here.
Last year the Royal Geelong Yacht Club was crowned the Club of the Year, Lisa Darmanin received the national award for Female Sailor of the Year and Tom Slingsby was named Male Sailor of the Year. A full list of the 2020 Award winners can be found here.
