Mascalzone has won the Melges 32 Sardinia Rally, a great advantage heading towards the World Championship starting Wednesday 1 September.

The Sardinia Rally, 27 to 30 August, engaged the Melges 20 and Melges 32 fleets in a series of races valid as fourth part of the annual Melges World League circuit, ended with another beautiful windy day.

Following the Melges 20 title awarded to Dario Levi’s Fremito d’Arja, the success in the Melges 32 fleet went to Mascalzone, where the tactical choices were entrusted to Manuel Weiller, who proved to be able to read well the variegated conditions of these days, which have ranged from strong wind, over 20 knots, to very light breezes.

Second place went to Christian Schwoerer’s La Pericolosa and third to Wilma owned by Fritz Homann.

In the Corinthian division, reserved for non-professional sailors, success went to Homanit, followed on the podium by Team Heat and Startelekom.

The Melges 32 World Championship is expected to start on Wednesday 1 September, involving all the boats that took part to the Sardinia Rally, making the event organised by the LNI – Villasimius, Marina di Villasimius and Melges Europe during this weekend a real warm up in view of the World Championship.
