Queensland’s Gold Coast City Marina & Shipyard (pictured above) and Fenwicks Marina, at Brooklyn, north of Sydney, have both added to their reputations for environmental best practice with recent accreditation as ‘Fish Friendly’ marinas.

This accreditation is an added achievement to their existing and recently renewed Level 3 Clean Marina accreditation.

Marina Industries Association’s (MIA) QLD Director, John Hogan CMP presented GCCM owner Trenton Gay and Chief Operating Officer Steve Sammes CMM with the Clean Marina flag and certificate to mark the successful accreditation. MIA Executive Officer, Colin Bransgrove presented Andrew Fenwick CMM and his marina staff with their accreditation certificate and flag.

“Marinas can provide important habitats for fish. The ‘Fish Friendly Marinas’ program has been developed to inform marina managers on how to maximise the benefits for fish and recognise those operators actively working to improve fish habitat.

“MIA congratulates both Gold Coast City Marina and Fenwicks Marina on their significant commitment to protecting and preserving the valuable marine habitat in which they are located and communicating their efforts to customers and visitors,” Colin said.

Steve Sammes CMM said, “Clean Marina and Fish Friendly accreditation was another important step in demonstrating GCCM’s commitment to environmental best practice.

“As a multi-faceted marina facility, it is essential all components are operating both individually and collectively at the highest level of performance. The Clean Marinas program provides us with specific criteria to assess the environmental performance of our marina operations and complements our environmental policies, plans and operations.”

Andrew Fenwick CMM echoed Steve’s comments and said “I know I speak on behalf of our staff and tenants in saying that Fenwicks Marina is proud to be able to fly the Clean Marina flag as an important signal that we are committed to the highest environmental standards.

“This extra achievement will further encourage us to continually improve our operations and environmental performance.”
