Designed by a team of passionate sailors, this catamaran is the fruit of a long reflection on the pleasure of sailing, the pleasure of living aboard, and the pleasure of enjoying the playground that extends around the boat.
With the Excess 13, the brand’s personality asserts itself even further.
Reinforced by the ideas from a new team of architects, it unveils a modern, dynamic, efficient interior design, in keeping with its conquering exterior lines.
This new model retains all the DNA of the range, created with VPLP team and Patrick Le Quément aboard the first generation of Excess catamarans.

With the architectural expertise of Marc Lombard YDG, the Excess Design Team is continuing and strengthening the development of the innovative and dynamic second generation of Excess catamarans.
“The project was simple yet ambitious: to create a catamaran that would evolve and be balanced, reliable and offer good sensations, all combined with the comfort and interior volume that have made Excess such a success,” said Eric Levet, Cabinet Lombard, naval architect of the new Excess 13.
“The form of the hulls, the weight, the composite structure, the interior layout, the ergonomics, the efficiency of the sail plan…Everything on this new Excess is designed around the pleasure of easy sailing and comfortable living onboard.”
The design of the Excess 13 picks up on the codes of our previous models. Externally, the Excess teams have retained the lines of the hull and the shape of the windows and have worked around this base to present a new model in keeping with the DNA of our brand.
For the interior design, Jean-Marc Piaton began with interviews to identify, understand and get into the spirit of the brand and give it substance.
“We listened to around 30 people talk to us about the brand: employees, owners, dealers, charterers. What emerged was a very positive and, above all, highly identified perception,” said Jean-Marc Piaton, Interior Designer for the new Excess 13.
“This is both very rare for such a young brand, and very interesting when considering its design. Hervé Piveteau had high expectations of lightness, both real and perceived, and wanted this new model to fit in well with the existing models, without creating too strong a break.”
The Less is more philosophy inspired the design of the Excess 13.
The aim is to offer greater functionality and comfort on board, while limiting any negative impacts as well as the amount of materials used. This approach is in line with boater’ aspirations for greater simplicity and moderation. The result is lighter, yet sturdier boats that guarantee great sailing sensations.
“Less is more means a constant search for optimisation,” stated Hervé Piveteau, Excess 13 Product Manager.
“Aboard the Excess 13, for example, we have installed a rainwater recovery system on the coachroof, which is then stored in a tank. An efficient ventilation system limits the power demanded by the air conditioning unit. Cabin doors have a dual function, as both entrance door and closet door. When one is open, the other is closed.
“This may seem anecdotal, but with less material and more room for passing, it’s the little details that, put together, make all the difference.”
The Excess 13 is a cruising catamaran, a true sailboat capable of ocean passage-making. The boat’s potential is felt as soon as you leave harbor, giving you a dizzying sense of freedom.
The very direct helm allows you to feel the connection with the sea and fine-tune everything. Sensations are increased exponentially. The forward-facing chart table keeps you in touch with the elements and allows you to navigate with pinpoint accuracy.
Like its predecessor, the Excess 13 uses the principle of asymmetrical hulls. These are finer in beam below the waterline, guaranteeing excellent performance and easy gliding through the water, all while maintaining living space.
The real innovations concern the structure, where all the designers’ creativity has been devoted to lightening the boat’s weight. The result is invisible, but you can feel it.
Aboard the Excess 13, comfort is all about being able to enjoy a well-deserved rest after an intense experience. The interior of this new model is bathed in natural light. Its fully equipped galley, as easily accessible from the cockpit as it is from the saloon, acts as a link between interior and exterior spaces.
The hull dedicated to owners combines a spacious cabin with a large forward heads compartment and, a rare feature on a boat of this size, a large closet. It also features an ergonomically designed desk area with natural light for the boat office.
Complementing the chart table, it offers a second workspace, allowing you to reconcile your professional life with your passion for the sea as never before. In the opposite hull, guests enjoy two cabins and two private bathrooms.
The real prowess of this Excess 13 lies in the design of, with significant living volumes, vast stowage space and considerable its structure and the position of its bulkheads, creating a high level of habitability headroom, all without compromising the boat’s performance.
The Excess 13 offers answers to all the ways you love the sea. At anchor, it becomes an ideal platform for all nautical activities and the most daring challenges.
The monohull-inspired access to the sea via fold-down sugarscoops combines safety and efficiency.
Impressive, innovative exterior storage volumes allow you to carry a wide range of equipment for every adventure: diving and snorkeling for fans of the depths; wingfoiling or kitesurfing for adventurous watersports.
