Following new restrictions across New Zealand, Wednesday’s planned Prada Cup final race has been postponed.

The new restrictions were imposed by the New Zealand Government at 11:59 pm on Sunday after three locally acquired COVID-19 cases were recorded in Auckland.

For the next 72 hours, Auckland will be placed on level 3 restrictions while the rest of the country will be placed on level 2.

The Millennium Cup, the South Pacific’s premier superyacht regatta, was also scheduled to begin this week in New Zealand’s Bay of Islands but has since been postponed to at least March following the restrictions.

In response to the announcement, America’s Cup Event Ltd announced that the next scheduled Prada Cup final race will be postponed for at least 72 hours. America’s Cup Event Ltd will also be closing the event village to the public at this time.

A statement from the company read: “America’s Cup Event Ltd will be working with the authorities and relevant agencies over the next few days to work through the ongoing ramifications.”

The Prada Cup final officially began this weekend with Italian side, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, winning all four races over Sir Ben Ainslie’s INEOS TEAM UK.

The winners of the Prada Cup Final will compete against defending champion, Emirates Team New Zealand, in the 36th America’s Cup.
