Australian Sailing has publicly announced that their partnership with DeckHardware and LIROS Ropes will continue for another four years.

The partnership between the two names began in 2010 when DeckHardware, the long term distributor of LIROS Ropes across Australasia, became the category supplier for the Australian Sailing Team (AST).

In the decade since this partner, LIROS Ropes have been fitted into several Australian boats that went on to win an Olympic medal.

The renewed partnership will see DeckHardware fit all of AST’s boats with LIROS Ropes, including the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, currently rescheduled to later this year following COVID-19 delays, and the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

“Working with the team had been a joy,” said Philip Yeomans, one of DeckHardware’s founders.

“A lot of them have become good friends. We get feedback from some of the sailors which has been great and LIROS have developed ropes for them. Whenever they come in it is great to chat. It’s been great to get new products developed because of it,” he added.

LIROS Managing Director, Sven Rosenberger shared the sentiment: “We are proud to be able to continue the partnership with the AST until 2024 and are certain that both parties will continue to benefit from this technical partnership.”

DeckHardware’s partnership with the AST began through a childhood sailing relationship with Yeoman’s daughter, Mel, sailing with current AST member, Nathan Wilmot, in the Manly Juniors at Middle Harbour Yacht club. Years later, Wilmot, alongside Nathan Outteridge, asked if DeckHardware wanted to sponsor the team.

“We are incredibly proud of our relationship with DeckHardware and LIROS Ropes,” said Iain Murray, Australian Sailing Director of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Campaign.

“What started as an idea over ten years ago to use an Australian-based distributor to help fit our boats with the best international technology when it comes to ropes has resulted in countless world championships and a swathe of Olympic medals. We look forward to more of the same as we continue the partnership over the next four years.”

DeckHardware is a sailing and marine distribution business based out of Brookvale in Sydney’s Northern Beaches. The business was founded by Robyn and Philip Yeomans, run alongside their daughter, Mel.

Based in Germany, LIROS Ropes is a recognised world leader in producing hi-tech yachting ropes.
