The Windcraft Cruising Expo to be held at the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia at Rushcutters Bay from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 August. Windcraft will showcase all six brands, encompassing the Hanse, Dehler, Moody and Solaris sailing ranges, as well as the iconic Fjord dayboat marque and the new highly versatile award-winning RYCK adventure sports boat.

The event will mark the Australian premiere of the Moody 41 DS, praised by reviewers for its “living space and stowage on a scale few boats of this length [12.52-metres/41-feet 1-inch] can match”, combined with “sailing performance, which had us clipping along at close to 8 knots in about 13 knots of breeze.”

The Moody 41 DS (DS stands for Deck Saloon) will be available for inspection during the Expo and Windcraft Managing Director Anthony Bishop is anticipating the Moody’s single-level living space from cockpit connecting to the panoramic saloon will resonate with sailors of all ages.

“The Moody Deck Saloon brings together concepts from luxury motor yachts and catamarans into a monohull sailing yacht that is very unique in our industry,” Bishop explains.  “It is easily sailed by one or two people and the ideal yacht for extended coastal cruising,” he adds.

A brand new Dehler 42 will be on display alongside the Moody 41 DS and experienced sailors will appreciate features such as the 42’s well-appointed cockpit for shorthand sailing with the  primary winches at both helm stations within easy reach, as well as its big roomy cabins.

Highly regarded in the sailing community, Dehler is recognised as having designs that can truly transition between comfortable cruising and competitive racing, either for twilights, club series, or major regattas such as Hamilton Island Race Week.

At just over 14.3 metres the Italian built Solaris 47, will be the largest yacht at the Windcraft Cruising Expo. The 47’s semi-flush deck profile, superb construction quality and refined fit-out coupled with enviable performance have rightly drawn admirers right around the world.

The popularity of Hanse as family cruising yachts stems from their easy sailing characteristics, able to be handled by a couple or a few crew, impressive build quality and comfortable accommodations. Windcraft will have one of the German manufacturer’s most popular models, the Hanse 418, on display for visitors to inspect.

Of course, cruising our spectacular waterways isn’t limited to sailing craft and the Expo will host the Australian premiere of the stunning Fjord 41 XL. The distinctive open deck design with its gleaming ‘Royal Nights’ blue hull is certain to elicit admiration among the dock walkers.

Another option for fast day-boating and soaking-up the sun off a beach is the RYCK 280, a completely new design from the Hanse group and this outboard-powered walk-around centre-console day-boat garnered a lot of attention and comments during a previous short stay in the “Pond” located a few steps aways from the CYCA’s deck.

Changing market dynamics, reinforced by the pandemic have seen a continuing shift to smaller boutique events that enable dealers to provide yachting enthusiasts and potential buyers a better environment to assess a boat, get a feel for the layout and interact with the sales team.

Anthony Bishop, Windcraft’s well-known MD, who will be on-hand to talk with interested parties, is convinced the Expo format delivers a number of benefits.

“We have an exciting lineup of luxury cruising yachts that are all award-winning models in their respective categories, and we want to present them in a relaxed setting that allows our team to provide an exclusive and personalised viewing experience,” he says.

“We are looking to continually improve the experience these events provide based on feedback from those who are genuinely looking for the advice and expertise that our team has to offer,” Bishop concludes.

That’s good news for any sailor contemplating the best way of realising their cruising dreams.
